Zach Johnson is Athlete of the Month
November 21, 2016
Running back/Safety
Stats: 12 TD’s
Senior football captain Zach Johnson has been chosen as the Harbinger’s November Athlete of the Month for excelling in football as a running back and free safety. Zach leads the team in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns. Zach has helped the Bulls average 265 rushing yards per game through their first 6 games.
Starting with an undefeated streak the football team is led by a strong senior lineup with the additions of some key junior players. The offense has been nothing short of spectacular when it comes to rushing, passing, and especially scoring. The Bulls have put up serious numbers on teams like Chesapeake (50-6), Western Tech (49-6), and Loch Raven (60-6).
In Week 6 against Chesapeake Johnson suffered a dislocated shoulder forcing him to miss the Week 7 game against Western Tech that the Bulls still won by a large margin. Johnson entered the game against Chesapeake averaging two touchdowns per game and held that up by rushing in two touchdowns before being injured while playing defense.
“It sucked to miss time this year but I’m still happy that the team was able to get the win,” Johnson said.
Johnson also shows his talents on defense as a two way starter playing free safety on defense while being a true defensive leader. Johnson has been able to snag 2 interceptions this season so far while amassing numerous tackles in the secondary.
“Zach has great vision and hits the hole hard, I know if I get him to the second level he can make multiple guys miss,” teammate Mike Nash (’17) said.
Johnson will make his return against Overlea in Week 9 to face the one-loss Falcons in the game that will likely decide the division title. Johnson returning to the field will give the Bulls the boost they need to get past Overlea and advance to 9-0 and end the season against New Town on November 5.
