USA Men’s International Team look for win in Copa América
June 3, 2016
USA Men’s International Soccer team starts up the Copa América by playing the Colombian Men’s International Team on June 3 at 9:30 pm.
If you do not know what the Copa América is, it is a professional soccer tournament between countries from North and South America. There are four groups of four teams in the group stage. After three games are played by each team the top two teams in each group move on to the knockout rounds. After this the teams battle until two team make it to the final. These two teams play each other to determine the victor.
The US will have a tough match first with Columbia having strong player like James Rodriguez, Carlos Bacca, and Juan Cuadrado. But the US has some of their own star players too.
We have Clint Dempsey and wunderkind Christina Pulisic and Bobby Wood, two of the USA’s bright young talents. These three have had good seasons and Wood has had an excellent season in the Bundesliga 2, Germany’s lower soccer league, earning him a promotion to the upper league.
The USA is looking for its first win in this, but they will have a tough chance with teams like Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and their first match, Columbia. I do not believe that the USA will win, but I think that they have the potential to make it far.
Brazilian Star Neymar da Silva Santos Jr., or Neymar for short, will not be playing in the tournament. But other team, like Argentina, have a stacked offense with player like Lionel Messi and Sergio “Kun” Aguero, Uruguay have all-star striker Luis Suarez, Chile has Alexis Sanchez, and Mexico has Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez.
After our first game the US will play Costa Rica on June 7 at 8:00 pm and Paraguay on June 11 at 7:00 pm.
The tournament is being held in the US this year which will give an advantage to the US team while playing on their home turf.
“The Copa América on US soil, for us, is an amazing opportunity,” Jurgen Klinsmann US International Team Coach said. “It’s going to be the showcase for the United States and for our players to show everybody how good they are.”
The US will have to win a hard fight to make it to the final, but I think they may have the skill and the strength to make it to the end.
